April marks the transition point in the UAE travel year. The ideal cool-weather window of October–March is closing, and the city shifts towards summer mode. This means lower crowds, noticeably cheaper accommodation, and a more local feel to city life — but also midday heat that requires planning around.

By late April, outdoor activity is best confined to mornings (before 11am) and late afternoons (after 5pm). Hotel pools and beach clubs are busy in April as residents and visitors adapt to the warmer pattern.

Ramadan in April

Ramadan dates shift each year. In some years, Ramadan falls entirely or partially in April — check the 2026 UAE Islamic calendar for exact dates. When Ramadan occurs:

  • Restaurants, cafés, and food stalls are closed from sunrise to sunset. Hotel restaurants stay open but usually in discreet internal areas.
  • Eating, drinking, or smoking in public during daylight hours is illegal for all — tourists included.
  • Alcohol service is restricted in many venues during Ramadan.
  • Business hours shorten; government offices and some shops open later.
  • Iftar (the evening fast-breaking meal) is a significant social occasion. Some hotels and restaurants offer iftar buffets from approximately AED 150–300 per person — attending one is a genuine and memorable cultural experience.
  • The atmosphere in the evenings is festive and social, particularly in traditional areas.

Even outside Ramadan, April’s cultural calendar is quieter than March. This is not a month for major festivals.

Where to Go in April

Indoor attractions become the priority as temperatures rise. April is a good month to spend time in Dubai’s world-class museums and indoor cultural spaces:

  • Museum of the Future (Sheikh Zayed Road, Dubai): arguably the UAE’s most architecturally distinctive building, the museum focuses on future technology and human development. Tickets cost approximately AED 149–175 as of 2026. Book online in advance.
  • Louvre Abu Dhabi (Saadiyat Island): the UAE outpost of the Paris museum, housing a permanent collection spanning ancient civilisations to the 20th century. Admission approximately AED 63 for adults as of 2026.
  • Dubai Frame (Zabeel Park): the 150-metre picture-frame structure straddles old and new Dubai geographically. Tickets approximately AED 50 as of 2026; the glass-bottomed sky bridge is worth it.

Day trips to Oman or mountain areas are still viable in April mornings. Hatta and the Hajar Mountains are more tolerable in the mornings than at midday, and a dawn or early-morning drive through the mountain road between Ras Al Khaimah and Fujairah is scenic before the heat builds.

Getting Around

April is quieter on roads than peak winter months, which means taxis and ride-hailing apps (Careem, Uber) are more readily available. Airport transfers to Downtown Dubai by taxi run approximately AED 55–80. The Metro remains air-conditioned and reliable throughout.

If driving your own rental car, be aware that parking charges apply across much of Dubai (approximately AED 2–4 per hour). The Salik toll system charges AED 4 per gate crossing; the gates are marked and unavoidable on major routes.

Hotels in April

April is shoulder to off-season. Hotel rates drop meaningfully from the January–March peak. Expect mid-range hotels in Dubai to start from approximately AED 300–500 per night, with luxury properties becoming competitive (approximately AED 800–1,400 per night rather than AED 1,500+).

Hotel picks:

  • Rove Downtown Dubai: design-focused mid-range; extremely central; from approximately AED 350–500 per night in April.
  • Park Hyatt Dubai (Deira): waterfront, relaxed, pool-focused; from approximately AED 700–1,000 per night.
  • Eastern Mangroves Hotel & Spa by Anantara (Abu Dhabi): kayak directly into the mangrove channels; a calming contrast to city hotels; from approximately AED 600–900 per night.

Restaurants to Try

  • The Loft (OPA Mirdif City Centre): good for a casual evening; varied menu; approximately AED 100–160 per person.
  • Bateaux Dubai: floating restaurant cruise on Dubai Creek; dinner cruise from approximately AED 250–350 per person; pleasant for an April evening.
  • Samad Al Iraqi (multiple Dubai locations): Iraqi home-style cooking; very popular with residents; from approximately AED 50–90 per person; cash-focused.

What to Pack for April

April calls for genuinely light summer clothing during the day. Lightweight fabrics that breathe — linen or cotton — are ideal. Short sleeves are comfortable; heavier layers are not needed. Evening temperatures remain pleasant (20–22°C). Sunscreen and a hat are important for any outdoor time, particularly at midday. AC is aggressive in malls and restaurants, so a light cardigan is useful for extended indoor time.

April offers a different kind of UAE trip — quieter, cheaper, and better suited to indoor culture and evening exploration than January’s beach-and-desert agenda. Go in with adjusted expectations and you will find it a worthwhile and significantly more affordable experience.
