The Museum of the Future opened in February 2022 and has since established itself as one of Dubaiβs most distinctive landmarks. From the outside, the toroid structure - a doughnut shape clad in stainless steel panels engraved with Arabic calligraphy by the poet Ahmed Al Mulla - is one of the more architecturally striking buildings in a city not short of them. Inside, seven floors of immersive exhibitions explore artificial intelligence, biotechnology, climate futures, and the nature of consciousness.
This is not a conventional museum. There are no static artefacts behind glass and minimal written labels. Each floor is a curated environment designed to be physically entered and experienced.
The Building and Architecture
The Museum of the Future is a windowless toroid - a hollow ring 77 metres tall - that from certain angles appears to float above Sheikh Zayed Road. The facade panels carry three quotes by Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum in white calligraphy against silver steel:
βThe future belongs to those who can imagine it, design it, and execute it.β βWe will not wait for the future; we will build it.β βThe greatest risk to a man is not to take risks.β
The structural engineering is notable: the void at the centre of the building required a complex internal steel skeleton, as the toroid has no central support column. At night, the calligraphy is backlit and visible from the highway - sunset and late-evening lighting are the best times to photograph the exterior.
Exhibitions Floor by Floor
Level 7β6 - OSS Hope (Space Station)
The journey starts at the top: a simulated space station set in 2071, orbiting a point beyond our solar system. The level is designed as a functional habitat - laboratories, observation pods, a plant cultivation chamber, and a mission control room. Actors occasionally inhabit the space. The scale is convincing and the view from the βobservatoryβ windows - rendered via high-resolution screens - replicates the curvature of Earth from low orbit.
Level 5 - Heal Institute (Rainforest Immersion)
A multi-sensory environment representing a future biodiversity research station inside an engineered rainforest. Visitors walk through dense hanging plants, projected canopy light, and ambient sound. Interactive stations explore gene editing, rewilding programmes, and synthetic biology. This level has the longest average dwell time of any floor.
Level 4 - Al Waha (Mindfulness Space)
A contrast to the technological density of the upper floors: a calmer, darker environment exploring futures of human consciousness, meditation, and well-being enhancement. Soft water features and reclined seating pods populate the space. Less popular with groups but worth spending 15β20 minutes.
Level 3 - Change Lab
The most participatory floor. Visitors are presented with scenarios - a city under climate stress, a society post-scarcity of energy - and invited to contribute ideas to a fictional futures council. Submissions are aggregated into a live display. The concept works better in smaller groups than with crowds, but the underlying design exercises are genuinely thought-provoking.
Ground Level - The Library
The museumβs gift shop and a curated physical library of books on futures studies, design, and technology. Books are available for purchase. The cafΓ© on the lower ground level serves coffee and light food.

The museum is open Sunday to Thursday from 10:00 to 20:00, and Friday to Saturday from 10:00 to 22:00 as of 2026. Last entry is 30 minutes before closing. Verify current hours on the official website before visiting, as hours adjust during Ramadan and UAE public holidays.

Metro: Dubai Metro Red Line to Emirates Towers station. Exit toward Sheikh Zayed Road - the museum is visible from the station exit and a 5-minute walk away.
Taxi: From Downtown Dubai, approximately AED 20β30. From Dubai Marina, approximately AED 40β55.
Parking: The museum has a dedicated car park accessed from Sheikh Zayed Road. Parking costs approximately AED 20 for 3 hours on weekdays and AED 30 on weekends as of 2026.
Photography Tips
The exterior is best photographed from the highway-facing vantage point across Sheikh Zayed Road - the calligraphy is readable and the twin Emirates Towers frame the building from behind. Arrive at sunset for the transition from daylight to artificial lighting. Interior photography is permitted on all floors except during certain live exhibits where staff will indicate restrictions.
Combining with Nearby Attractions
The Museum of the Future sits in the DIFC area, within walking distance of:
- Emirates Towers - shopping and dining in the tower podium
- DIFC Gate Village - galleries, restaurants, and the opera pavilion
- Burj Khalifa/Dubai Mall - approximately 10 minutes by metro or 15 minutes by taxi
