Dubai Mall is not just a shopping centre — it’s a destination in its own right. With over 1,200 stores, an aquarium, an ice rink, a waterfall, and a full calendar of public events, it draws an estimated 105 million visitors per year, making it one of the most visited places on earth. Arriving without a plan means getting lost; arriving with one means you can get exactly what you want from it.
Getting There
Metro: The Burj Khalifa/Dubai Mall station on the Red Line is the simplest approach. The covered, air-conditioned walkway from the station exit to the mall entrance is approximately 700 metres — about 10 minutes at a relaxed pace. The route is well-signed and runs past a section of the iconic Downtown Dubai fountain.
Taxi/Rideshare: Multiple dedicated drop-off zones. Main ones are at Entrance 1 (Ground Floor, facing the fountain) and Entrance 2 (near Galeries Lafayette). Specify which entrance when booking via Careem or Uber to avoid the wrong drop-off point.
Driving: Dubai Mall has approximately 14,000 parking spaces across multiple levels and a multi-storey car park. Parking is free for the first 2–3 hours on weekdays; paid parking on evenings and weekends. Use the Dubai Mall parking app or follow the variable message signs for available space sections.
Floor Overview
Dubai Mall has four main levels (Ground, Level 1, Level 2, Level 3) plus additional basement and mezzanine sections.
Ground Floor: The Dubai Aquarium and Underwater Zoo entrance, Galeries Lafayette, the main fashion brands along Fashion Avenue (Louis Vuitton, Gucci, Chanel, Prada), the Gold Souk section within the mall, and multiple entrances from the car park and Metro walkway.
Level 1: The bulk of mid-range and high-street retail — Zara, H&M, Mango, Levi’s, and hundreds of other brands. The Grand Atrium in the centre is the main social space. Kinokuniya bookshop (one of the largest in the Middle East, strong English-language section) is on this level.
Level 2: The food court (The Food Court), VR Park, the Dubai Ice Rink, cinema complex, and additional retail. The food court here is large — multiple cuisines, fast food, and regional food brands at prices significantly lower than the mall’s restaurants.
Level 3: The youngest/most budget-oriented retail, additional dining. Connects to the Burj Khalifa viewing area via a covered bridge and to the Fountain Promenade outside.
Dubai Aquarium and Underwater Zoo
The centrepiece attraction on the Ground Floor. The main tank holds 10 million litres of water and is one of the largest suspended aquariums in the world, containing over 33,000 aquatic animals including sand tiger sharks and rays.
Ticket options (approximate, as of 2026):
- Tunnel Experience only: AED 100 adults / AED 85 children 2–12
- Aquarium + Underwater Zoo: AED 140 adults / AED 120 children
- Dive with sharks (certified diver): AED 500–700 depending on package
- Glass-bottom boat: AED 80 (floats inside the main tank on the upper level)
The aquarium face is visible for free from the Ground Floor — you can see the main tank through the acrylic panel without paying. The paid tunnel walk-through puts you inside the tank on three sides, which is different enough to be worth it. Allow 45–60 minutes for the full aquarium and underwater zoo experience.
Dubai Ice Rink
An Olympic-sized ice rink on Level 2. Open to public skating sessions throughout the day, with figure skating shows and other events in the evenings.
Session pricing (approximate, as of 2026):
- Standard session (1.5 hours): approximately AED 80 including skate hire
- Peak periods (evenings, weekends): approximately AED 90
Public sessions typically run: 10:00–12:30, 13:30–16:00, 17:00–19:30, 20:30–23:00. Check the rink schedule as timings change around private bookings and events.
The Dubai Fountain
Located directly outside the mall, facing the Burj Khalifa. The fountain choreographed show runs twice nightly (approximately 18:00 and 21:30 daily; longer on weekends) and is completely free to watch from the lakeside promenade. One of the most popular free spectacles in Dubai — arrive a few minutes early for a good viewing spot.
The outdoor terrace of the restaurants on Level 3 and Ground Floor (The Cheesecake Factory, Rainforest Cafe, and others) have good fountain views if you want dinner while watching.
Food Options
The Food Court (Level 2): The most practical and affordable option in the mall. Estimated 40+ food stalls and counters covering Indian, Chinese, Japanese, Middle Eastern, Mexican, and various fast food formats. Budget approximately AED 30–60 for a full meal.
Mid-range restaurants: Dubai Mall has over 150 dining outlets. Good value mid-range options on Level 1 include:
- Jones the Grocer — café and deli format, good for breakfasts and salads (AED 60–100/person)
- California Pizza Kitchen — reliable pizzas and pastas (AED 80–120/person)
- Shake Shack — quick and consistent (AED 50–70/person)
Waterfront restaurants (outside, Ground Floor): The outdoor strip facing the fountain has restaurants at premium prices — location premium applies. The Cheesecake Factory and P.F. Chang’s are the most consistently reliable of these. Budget AED 150–250 per person with drinks.
Kinokuniya café: A quieter coffee and snack option within the bookshop on Level 1. Good if you need a break mid-shopping.
VR Park
On Level 2, near the ice rink. A large indoor virtual reality and gaming entertainment zone with 30+ VR experiences, rides, and arcade games. Individual experiences from approximately AED 25–80; day passes approximately AED 200.
Best suited to teenagers and adults interested in VR and gaming. Not a quiet experience — expect noise and queues at peak times. Weekday mornings are significantly quieter.
Avoiding Crowds
Dubai Mall is one of the busiest places in the city. Weekend evenings (Thursday and Friday, from approximately 18:00 onwards) are at peak capacity. Christmas and New Year, school holiday periods, and Eid are the busiest times of year.
Best visit times:
- Weekday mornings (10:00–13:00): Substantially quieter. Most popular with organised tour groups, but retail areas feel much more spacious.
- Thursday and Friday mornings: Slightly busier than Mon–Wed but still manageable.
- Avoid: Friday evening, Saturday evening, and the week around Christmas/New Year.
The Aquarium has the most variable wait times — book online in advance (www.thedubaiaquarium.com) to guarantee timed entry. Online booking also saves approximately AED 10–20 on ticket prices vs walk-up.
Practical Notes
Mobile connectivity: Full 5G/4G coverage throughout. Free Wi-Fi available (register with a UAE mobile number).
Prayer rooms: Available on each floor. Located near most major entrances — signposted.
Baby facilities: Multiple dedicated nursing and baby-changing rooms throughout the mall.
Lost and found / information desks: Located near Entrance 1 on the Ground Floor and near the Aquarium.
Left luggage: Not available at the mall itself. Most hotels offer luggage storage; Dubai Airport has left luggage facilities.
Opening hours: Saturday–Wednesday 10:00–00:00, Thursday–Friday 10:00–01:00. Select restaurants are open from 08:00 for breakfast service. Individual store hours may vary.

Frequently Asked Questions
- How long do you need in Dubai Mall?
- Two to three hours for shopping and one main attraction (the Aquarium or Ice Rink). A full day if you plan to do multiple attractions, a proper meal, and serious shopping. Allow time to walk between sections — the mall is 1.2 million square metres and some entrances are 15 minutes apart at a walking pace.
- How do you get to Dubai Mall by Metro?
- Burj Khalifa/Dubai Mall station on the Red Line. Take the exit toward Dubai Mall and follow the covered, air-conditioned walkway — it's approximately a 700-metre walk (about 10 minutes). The walkway is clearly signed and passes over the road connecting to the Fashion Avenue entrance.
- Is the Dubai Mall Aquarium worth the entry fee?
- Yes, by most visitors' accounts. The tunnel walk-through (where you're surrounded on three sides by sharks, rays, and thousands of fish) is genuinely impressive even for non-aquarium enthusiasts. Entry for the tunnel is approximately AED 100. The full experience including the underwater zoo adds around AED 40–60 more — the penguin area and animal interactions make it a better choice for families.
