Fujairah is the UAE’s east coast emirate, facing the Gulf of Oman rather than the Arabian Gulf. This geographic difference produces a meaningfully different experience: rockier coastline, coral reef diving, dramatic Hajar Mountain backdrops, and a noticeably calmer pace than the Gulf-side emirates. It’s a three-hour drive from Dubai but feels considerably further in atmosphere.

Which Part of Fujairah Should You Stay In?

Al Aqah Beach is the main resort strip, approximately 30km north of Fujairah city. This is where the major international resort hotels are concentrated — Le Meridien, Radisson Blu, Sandy Beach. The beach has good coral and is the diving base for the east coast.

Fujairah City is the urban centre — the fort, souks, and main commercial district. Hotels here are cheaper and more city-focused. If you’re here to explore the city, the fort, and the surrounding heritage sites, staying in town makes sense.

Dibba is the northernmost point of Fujairah, bordering Oman, and is a popular snorkelling and kayaking base. Limited hotel options but growing.

Khor Fakkan is an exclave of Sharjah on the east coast — geographically on the Fujairah coast, administered separately. Has its own beach and a couple of hotels.

Couples: Le Meridien Al Aqah or JAL Fujairah Resort — both quieter and more polished than the family-heavy properties. JAL in particular has a calm, attentive feel.

Budget travellers: Stay in Fujairah city and rent a car or use taxis to access Al Aqah beach (approximately AED 80–100 one-way as of 2026).

Heritage and culture visitors: Fujairah city — walkable to Fujairah Fort (free entry), the old Friday Mosque, and the archaeological sites at Bithnah.

Booking Tips

Driving from Dubai: Fujairah is approximately 125km from Dubai via the E611 (Sharjah to Fujairah road). Allow 90 minutes under normal conditions; add 30 minutes on Friday afternoon when UAE residents head east for the weekend.

The east coast driving difference. The road passes through the Hajar Mountains via the Masafi Junction — one of the more scenic drives in the UAE. The climb is significant and the pass road is well-maintained but winds considerably.

Diving season. Visibility is best from September to May when water temperatures are cooler and sea conditions calmer. Summer diving is possible but visibility drops. Confirm conditions with your hotel’s dive centre before planning around an underwater itinerary.

Friday/Saturday premium. Al Aqah resorts fill on UAE weekends. Rates increase approximately 40–60% on Thursday–Saturday nights. Staying Sunday–Wednesday and driving back Friday morning is the strategy used by most cost-conscious UAE residents.

Fujairah airport. Fujairah International Airport receives limited international flights. Most arrivals come via Dubai or Abu Dhabi international airports and drive across.

Distance between Al Aqah and Fujairah city. Al Aqah is approximately 30km north of central Fujairah — around 25–30 minutes by car. There is no regular bus service. Taxis are available but less frequent than on the Dubai side.
