Yas Island Guide: Ferrari World, Yas Waterworld, Warner Bros.

Yas Island is Abu Dhabi’s purpose-built entertainment district — 25 square kilometres on an island 40 km from Dubai and 20 km from Abu Dhabi city centre. The three theme parks (Ferrari World, Yas Waterworld, Warner Bros. World) sit alongside the Yas Marina Circuit, Yas Mall, and several hotels. It is possible to spend two or three full days without leaving the island.

Ferrari World Abu Dhabi

The world’s largest indoor theme park, Ferrari World covers 200,000 square metres under a distinctive red roof shaped like the profile of a Ferrari GT. The signature attraction is Formula Rossa — the world’s fastest roller coaster, accelerating from 0 to 240 km/h in 4.9 seconds using a hydraulic launch system. Goggles are mandatory.

Tickets: Approximately AED 330 per adult, AED 240 per child (under 3 free) as of 2026. Book online for small discounts; same-day tickets are available at the gate.

Key rides and experiences:

• Formula Rossa: The centrepiece — 240 km/h launch, a 52-metre drop, and 6G through turns. Not suitable for those with back conditions, heart issues, or who are pregnant.
• Turbo Track: A vertical launch roller coaster through the roof of the building and back.
• Flying Aces: A biplane-themed coaster with the world’s tallest non-inverted loop.
• Ferrari driving simulators: Multiple formats including a racing championship simulator with genuine force feedback.
• Benno’s: Great Race: A family-friendly dark ride based on the 1969 Ferrari factory.

Time needed: A full day (6–7 hours) to experience all major rides. Half-day (4 hours) covers the headline coasters with minimal queuing at off-peak times.

Best for: Thrill-seekers, car enthusiasts, and families with children over 110 cm (the minimum height for Formula Rossa).

Yas Waterworld

A large waterpark with 45 rides covering multiple intensity levels, from gentle lazy rivers to the Bandit Bomber — a hanging roller coaster that passes through water jets and over pools.

Tickets: Approximately AED 290 per adult, AED 220 per child as of 2026. Towels and lockers available to rent (approximately AED 25–50).

Signature attractions:

• Bandit Bomber: A hanging roller coaster over water — unique in the region.
• Rush Rider: A surf simulator allowing standing wave surfing without the ocean.
• Dawwama: A massive funnel ride that fits four people per raft.
• Bubble Rush: A foam party meets water park — popular on designated days.

Time needed: A full day. The park is large enough that half a day leaves significant attractions unseen.

Best season: October through April — the park is pleasant without extreme heat. Summer temperatures make a waterpark more tolerable than a regular theme park, but the sun intensity is significant; apply high-SPF sunscreen repeatedly.

Warner Bros. World Abu Dhabi

A fully indoor theme park with six themed zones based on Warner Bros. properties: Metropolis (Superman/DC), Gotham City (Batman), Dynamite Gulch (Looney Tunes Old West), Cartoon Junction (classic cartoons), Bedrock (Flintstones), and Warner Bros. Plaza.

Tickets: Approximately AED 310 per adult, AED 225 per child as of 2026.

Signature experiences:

• Justice League: Warworld Attack: A motion-based ride with 4D effects.
• The Riddler Revolution: A flipping coaster in the Gotham City zone.
• Cartoon Junction characters: Year-round meet-and-greet sessions with Bugs Bunny, Daffy Duck, and others.
• The Flintstones Bedrock River Adventure: A family water ride.

Best for: Families with younger children — the character meetings and gentler rides suit ages 4–12 well. The DC zone appeals to adults; the Looney Tunes zone is built around children.

Time needed: 4–6 hours covers the main attractions without excessive queuing at off-peak times. A full day on busy weekends.

Yas Marina Circuit

The Formula 1 Abu Dhabi Grand Prix circuit offers several experiences for non-race visitors:

Yas Kart: Outdoor karting on a circuit adjacent to the main track. Approximately AED 99 for a 15-minute session as of 2026. Open most days, no booking required.

Track driving experiences: Drive your own car on the F1 circuit (subject to vehicle type requirements), or passenger laps in a sports car. Prices from approximately AED 800 per person for track experiences. Book well in advance as availability is limited.

Grand Prix Weekend (November): The Abu Dhabi Grand Prix transforms the island — hotels, restaurants, and the circuit itself reach full capacity. Race weekend passes start from approximately AED 500 for a three-day general admission ticket. The post-race concert on Sunday evening (included in most passes) is a significant draw; headline acts are announced in September each year.

Multi-Park Passes

Yas Theme Parks sells combo tickets covering two or three parks:

• 2-park pass: Approximately AED 500–550 covering any two of the three main parks
• 3-park pass: Approximately AED 650–720 covering all three

Combo passes can be used across multiple days — practically useful if you’re staying on the island. Single-day prices from the gate are slightly higher than online prices.

Getting There

From Dubai (40 km): Drive via E11/E12, approximately 30–40 minutes without traffic. Rush hour (07:00–09:00, 17:00–20:00) can add 30–60 minutes. A taxi from Dubai costs approximately AED 120–160.

From Abu Dhabi city (20 km): Drive via E12, approximately 20–25 minutes. Taxi approximately AED 50–70.

Bus: Abu Dhabi public buses run to Yas Island but require changes and are not practical for most visitors. A taxi or private transfer is the standard approach.

Parking: All Yas Island parks have free parking. The main Yas Theme Parks parking area is shared between Ferrari World and Warner Bros. World.

Practical Tips

• Book tickets online in advance — gates open at 10:00 for most parks, and online purchase saves time and minor discounts.
• All parks are cashless — use a card or Apple Pay.
• Friday and Saturday are the busiest days; Tuesday and Wednesday are quietest.
• Height restrictions apply to major rides: Formula Rossa requires 130 cm minimum; most family rides require 90–110 cm.
• Sunscreen is essential at Yas Waterworld even in winter — the Abu Dhabi sun is strong year-round.
