Day Trips from Fujairah

Fujairah sits on the Indian Ocean side of the Hajar Mountains, which means the day-trip logic is different from western UAE emirates: most of the best destinations are along the same coast or across the mountains rather than towards the Gulf. The east coast road is one of the most scenic drives in the country.

Khor Fakkan — Bay and Beaches

Distance: 25 km north | Drive time: 30 minutes | Day trip cost: AED 30–200 per person

Khor Fakkan is technically a Sharjah emirate exclave but is Fujairah’s closest significant excursion. The bay is a near-perfect crescent of clear water enclosed by the Hajar foothills. The Oceanic Hotel offers a beach day pass (approximately AED 75–100 including food credit as of 2026); the public beach is free.

The Corniche Area has a pleasant walkway, several good fish restaurants (AED 50–100 per person), and a small harbour. For snorkellers, the reefs off the beach between Khor Fakkan and the small headland are accessible by swimming from the shore — visibility typically 5–10 metres.

Dibba — Three-Emirate Point

Distance: 40 km north | Drive time: 45 minutes | Day trip cost: AED 30–200 per person

Dibba is a small town divided between three emirates (Fujairah, Sharjah, and Oman) and is the jumping-off point for the Musandam Peninsula boat tours — one of the most spectacular excursions in the region. Dhow trips into the Musandam fjords leave from Dibba and take 4–6 hours (from approximately AED 200–350 per person, including snorkelling equipment and lunch) — browse tours from Fujairah to compare operators.

The Dibba Al Fujairah area has a quiet beach and a small historic site. If you’re not joining a Musandam dhow tour, Dibba itself is a quick stop rather than a full day.

Wadi Wurayah National Park

Distance: 30 km north | Drive time: 35 minutes | Day trip cost: Free entry (AED 10 parking as of 2026)

Wadi Wurayah is the UAE’s first UNESCO Biosphere Reserve and contains the country’s only freshwater waterfall — a small but significant natural feature in an otherwise arid country. The wadi system supports rare wildlife including the Blanford’s fox and Arabian tahr.

The lower section of the wadi is accessible in a standard car as far as the parking area; the upper pools require a moderate scramble over rocks (wear shoes with grip, not sandals). The waterfall flows most reliably after winter rains (November–February); in summer it can reduce to a trickle. No facilities at the wadi itself.

Hatta — Mountain Village

Distance: 80 km | Drive time: 1 hour via Masafi | Day trip cost: AED 40–300 per person

The drive from Fujairah to Hatta passes through the Hajar Mountains via Masafi — through winding mountain roads, date palm oases, and rock formations — before dropping into the Hatta valley. The Hatta Dam reservoir is the centrepiece: turquoise water surrounded by bare mountains. Kayaks and pedal boats hire from approximately AED 40/hour.

The Hatta Wadi Hub runs mountain biking trails of varying difficulty (bike hire from AED 80; trails rated beginner to advanced). Hatta Heritage Village (free, open Sun–Thu 08:00–20:00, Fri 14:30–20:00) shows what a traditional mountain village looked like before concrete.

Lunch at one of the Hatta coffee shops or at the Hatta Fort Hotel (buffet lunch approximately AED 120 per person) rounds off a full day.

Ras Al Khaimah — North Along the Coast

Distance: 110 km | Drive time: 90 minutes via Khor Fakkan | Day trip cost: AED 80–800+ per person

The coast road north from Fujairah via Khor Fakkan towards RAK is one of the prettiest drives in the UAE — mountains on the right, Indian Ocean on the left, small fishing villages along the way. The road eventually meets the Hajar foothills again before Khorfakkan.

In RAK itself, the Jebel Jais mountain drive (UAE’s highest peak at 1,934m) is the main attraction — see tours in Ras Al Khaimah if you’d prefer a guided visit — the road is 30 km long from the coastal plain to the 1,680m viewpoint, with dramatic limestone cliff scenery. The Jais Flight zipline (approximately AED 799 as of 2026, world’s longest) and Jais Sky Tour operate from a dedicated base station.

Dubai via Masafi

Distance: 130 km | Drive time: 90 minutes | Day trip cost: AED 50–400+ per person

The E89 Masafi–Al Dhaid road crosses the Hajar range and connects to Dubai via Hatta or via the inland desert route through Al Dhaid. Traffic on this route is manageable outside Dubai’s morning rush. Central Dubai (Burj Khalifa area, Creek, JBR) is comfortably reachable as a day trip.
