Umm Al Quwain is the UAE’s quietest emirate — a small peninsula between two lagoons, with a population of around 100,000 and a character that has changed less than anywhere else in the country over the past 30 years. Getting to Umm Al Quwain from Dubai

• By car: E11 coastal highway north through Sharjah and Ajman to UAQ. Allow 60–80 minutes from central Dubai depending on traffic. The Sharjah corridor can add 20–30 minutes during peak hours; travel mid-morning or after 20:00 to avoid it.
