Fujairah is the UAE’s only emirate with a coastline entirely on the Indian Ocean side, making it the country’s top destination for beach holidays with good water quality, snorkelling, and scuba diving. The main resort zone is Al Aqah, about 25 km north of Fujairah city, where three major beach hotels sit in front of the Gulf of Oman with the Hajar Mountains immediately behind them. The city itself has a more limited range of hotels but works as a practical budget base.

Al Aqah Beach Resorts

Al Aqah is where you want to be for a beach holiday. The three properties here occupy consecutive stretches of coast and are the most popular accommodation choices in the emirate.

Le Méridien Al Aqah Beach Resort (Mid-range to upscale, from AED 400/night): The largest and best-known property in the area. The beach is long and well-maintained, the pool complex is substantial, and the hotel has its own PADI dive centre — useful if you want to combine accommodation with organised diving. Rooms vary in quality; request an upper-floor room with a sea view for the best experience.

InterContinental Fujairah Resort (Upscale, from AED 600/night): The most polished resort in the emirate as of 2026, with a cleaner aesthetic than the Le Méridien and a slightly smaller, quieter beach. The rooftop restaurant serves good food with mountain and sea views. A solid choice if budget allows.

Rotana Beach Fujairah (Mid-range, from AED 450/night): Sits between the other two properties. A reliable mid-range option with direct beach access, a large pool, and well-priced food and beverage outlets. Strong value relative to comparable Dubai hotels.

Fujairah City Hotels

Fujairah city itself is commercial rather than resort-focused. Hotels here suit business travellers, those on a tight budget, or visitors prioritising access to Fujairah Fort and the old town.

Radisson Blu Fujairah (Mid-range, from AED 280/night): The most comfortable city hotel, with a pool and the full Radisson service standard. Popular with business travellers but also works for a one-night stopover. Approximately 20 minutes from Al Aqah by car.

Fujairah Fort Hotel (Budget, from AED 180/night): Basic but clean accommodation close to the fort and old souk. The choice if you want to minimise spend and are using Fujairah primarily as a base for day trips along the east coast.

The Dibba Area

Dibba Al Hisn, at the northern tip of Fujairah near the Musandam border, is a quieter alternative to Al Aqah for those who want access to excellent dive sites including Martini Rock and the Lima Rock area.

Golden Tulip Dibba (Budget to mid-range, from AED 250/night): The main hotel option in Dibba. Modest facilities but positioned well for the northern dive sites and for day trips into Oman’s Musandam peninsula (permit required).

What Area to Stay In

Al Aqah is the clear choice for a beach holiday. All three resorts offer direct beach access, on-site diving and watersports, and easy access to Snoopy Island. The drive from Al Aqah to Fujairah city takes around 25 minutes.

Fujairah city suits those on a tighter budget or combining a business trip with a short leisure stay. The corniche area has a pleasant waterfront, and the fort and heritage sites are walkable.

Dibba is the right base if diving the northern sites — particularly Martini Rock — is the primary purpose of the trip. Accommodation is more limited and basic, but the dive access compensates.

Booking Notes

  • Peak season runs October to May when temperatures are pleasant (22–32°C). Summer months (June–September) see fewer visitors and significantly lower room rates — sometimes 40–50% below peak prices — though temperatures reach 38–42°C.
  • Al Aqah hotels book out during UAE public holidays and long weekends. Plan at least three to four weeks ahead for these dates.
  • Many visitors to Fujairah combine it with a night in Ras Al Khaimah — both are on the mountain/east-coast circuit and the drive between them takes approximately two hours via the Masafi road.

Frequently Asked Questions

Is Fujairah good for beach holidays?
Yes — Fujairah sits on the Indian Ocean coast of the UAE, giving it clear, warm water and better snorkelling conditions than the Arabian Gulf side. The beaches at Al Aqah in particular are long, relatively quiet, and backed by the Hajar Mountains.
How far is Fujairah from Dubai?
Approximately 130–140 km by road, taking around 1.5 to 2 hours depending on traffic. The Masafi–Fujairah highway through the mountains is straightforward. There is no direct public transport between the two cities, so most visitors drive or hire a car.
Is Fujairah a good base for diving?
It is the best diving base in the UAE. The east coast sits on the Gulf of Oman, which has significantly clearer water and better reef life than the Arabian Gulf. Snoopy Island near Al Aqah is the most accessible snorkelling and entry-level dive site, with several PADI dive centres within a few minutes of the main beach hotels.
