Lufthansa, Wizz Air & Philippine Airlines Return to Dubai

A wave of international carriers is restoring Dubai services this month, with late October marking a significant step in the UAEโ€™s aviation recovery after a period of widespread regional disruptions.

Carriers Confirmed for October

Lufthansa resumes Munich-Dubai flights on 25 October with five weekly Airbus A350-900 services, followed by Frankfurt-Dubai on 26 October with an initial four weekly flights. Both routes had been suspended earlier in 2026 amid Middle East airspace uncertainty.

Wizz Air returns to the UAE from 25 October with Budapest-Dubai operating five times weekly and Bucharest-Dubai at seven weekly frequencies. The Budapest route in particular fills a gap that had left few budget options between Central Europe and Dubai through the peak winter season.

Philippine Airlines restored Manila-Dubai services on 2 October, operating three times weekly. This matters for the substantial Filipino community in the UAE and for travellers connecting through Manila to the broader Philippines.

Aegean Airlines also restarted Athens-Dubai from 7 October, with five weekly flights bringing direct connections back between Greece and the UAE for the first time since the route was suspended.

What This Means for Travellers

Emirates has already rebuilt approximately 85 per cent of its pre-disruption capacity, and the return of foreign carriers adds meaningful competition on key routes. The result is a broader range of direct options from European cities that were effectively cut off from the UAE for much of 2026.

With Lufthansa back on Munich and Frankfurt, travellers from German-speaking markets have direct options rather than routing through Doha or Istanbul. Wizz Airโ€™s return opens affordable connectivity from Hungary and Romania, two source markets that had few alternatives during the suspension period.

Not all carriers are back yet. Air Canada has extended its Dubai suspension to March 2027, and several other airlines are still finalising their return dates. The situation is being updated regularly, so checking directly with airlines before booking remains advisable.

Timing with the Winter Season

The late-October return window is well-timed. Dubaiโ€™s outdoor attractions are now open, hotel rates are firming for the November-March peak, and the Dubai Fitness Challenge and Global Village are both running through the winter months. Travellers who held off on UAE trips during the disruptions now have a significantly expanded choice of carriers as the high season begins.

We will continue to update this page as further airlines confirm their resumption dates. For current flight options and the latest practical entry requirements, see our practical travel guide.
